Dear Community members,
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our dear
colleague and friend, Tom Yoksas.
Tom was a long-time member of the NSF Unidata Program Center and an
important part of the broader Unidata Community, particularly the LDM/IDD
and McIDAS-X communities. Over the course of his many years with NSF
Unidata, he made lasting contributions to the software and infrastructure
that helped users across a wide range of scientific, educational, and
operational communities. Through his leadership, Tom helped expand the
reach of the IDD beyond the United States through the establishment of
IDD-Brasil. Many people will also remember him for the generosity with
which he shared his time and expertise, offering thoughtful technical
support and helping others work through difficult problems.
Tom was a colleague, mentor, problem solver, and friend. His knowledge and
dedication made an enormous difference to NSF Unidata and to the many
people and institutions that have relied on the systems he helped build,
maintain, and support. More personally, his presence was a constant within
the NSF Unidata Community for so many years that it is difficult to imagine
these communities without him.
Tom will be deeply missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing and
working with him.
