I have found that the local6.debug ... logs/ldmd.log line must be put behind (below) the line for *.info;....local6.none /var/log/messages
For the heck of it try it. (We use local0.debug and local0.none but that must be for the OS we have). 

vi
/etc/init.d/syslog restart

now my other machine all it does is the error messages or "child process
exited with xxxxx"

I would prefer the complete log, as it helps a lot ..
has anybody seen this??
is one server missing software the other has ??
any enlightenment ??
