PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HEADQUARTERS WASHINGTON DC
145 PM EST MON JAN 25 1993
TO: NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE (NWS) EMPLOYEES, FAMILY OF
SERVICES (FOS) SUBSCRIBERS, NOAA WEATHER WIRE SERVICE
(NWWS) SUBSCRIBERS, OTHER NWS PRODUCT USERS
FROM: DONALD R. WERNLY, CHIEF, WARNING AND FORECAST BRANCH,
OFFICE OF METEOROLOGY, NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
Effective March 8, 1993 at 12:00 noon Central Standard Time, the
National Weather Service (NWS) will transfer short-fuse warning
responsibility for eleven counties in north Texas (Table 1) FROM
the Wichita Falls (SPS), Texas Weather Service Office (WSO) TO
other offices. Eight counties will be transferred TO the
Oklahoma City (OKC), Oklahoma Weather Service Forecast Office
(WSFO) and three counties will be transferred to the Fort Worth
(FTW), Texas WSFO as indicated in Table 1. For these counties,
WSFOs OKC and FTW will issue short-fuse warning products (Tables
2 and 4 respectively) and related products that give followup
information on the warnings (Table 3 and 5). For holders of NWS
Operations Manual Chapter C-47, County Warning Areas, this
transfer is an official update.
Because of this county warning transfer, subscribers to the NWWS
and the FOS must take appropriate action to receive the short-
fuse warnings and related products for these eleven counties
using the OKC or FTW identifiers (Tables 2 through 5) instead of
the SPS identifier. The Universal Generic Codes (UGC) for the
counties, however, will remain unchanged (as shown in Table 1).
