************************* ANNOUNCEMENT *****************************
TO ALL NWS EMPLOYEES:
I am pleased to inform you that Jerry D. Jarrell has accepted the
position of director of the Tropical Prediction Center/National
Hurricane Center in Miami.
Jerry has been the acting director of the Hurricane Center since
September 1997, serving as deputy to then-director Bob Burpee.
He joined the Hurricane Center as deputy director under Bob
Sheets in 1988.
Jerry is widely known and respected by national and international
emergency managers and forecasters. I am pleased that he is
officially coming on-board as director before the hurricane
season begins on June 1. Through Jerry's leadership the
Hurricane Center will continue issuing the watches and warnings
of tropical storms and hurricanes that help us save lives.
I am sure that you join me in congratulating Jerry on his
acceptance of this position. Secretary Daley, Undersecretary
Baker, and I are in Miami this morning making this announcement.
