Notes:
1. In column 5 (WMO Header):
a. There are five types of GOES winds products being added. Each type
has been assigned a unique header depending upon whether it is based
on
GOES East or GOES West data. Each T2 value (i.e., A, C, E, G, H, J,
K, M, N, and P) refers to a specific type of wind product. See Part A
(field 12, above) or see the attached PRS, section 1.4, table 1, "WMO
Header" row for details.
b. i1=0 (area 10), 1(area 1), 2(area 2), 3 (area 3), ..., 9 (area 9).
The domains of the ten geographical areas are described in PRS
(section1.4, table 1).
c. i2=0-9, where a value of 1 corresponds to the first message, 2 to
the
second message, etc, as needed when multiple messages are sent for the
same time period.
d. The third field of the WMO header (i.e., the YYGGg1g2 field, which
is
not shown above) includes the day-of-month, hour, and minute of
product
generation, as described in the PRS, Section 1.4, table 1.
e. When numerous messages from the same satellite, geographical region
and time period occur, they might be disseminated as a series of
bundles, with each bundle having the same TTAAii CCCC YYGGgg WMO
header
but a unique B3 assignment in the WMO B1B2B3 field (not shown above).
This B1B2B3 field is optional and, when it is used, it follows the
YYGGgg
portion of the WMO header. When such sequencing is used, the
following
convention is employed:
Message 1 - no BBB field
Message 2 - B1B2B3 = RRA
Message 3 - B1B2B3 = RRB
... ... ...
Message 25 - B1B2B3 = RRX
Only as many messages as needed (<=25) will be used.
2. In column 8 (Character per message):
a. The data volumes shown are estimates based on the attached PRS.
Actual data volumes vary considerably due to weather conditions and
depending upon time of day (for reasons described in note 3a, below).
A sample of 3 days (Nov 3-5, 2002) indicated three-hourly volumes in
the
1.0-2.5MBytes range.
b. The data volumes correspond to the full distribution during the
three-hourly period shown in column 9. Individual BUFR messages will
be
much smaller (<12Kbytes).
3. In column 9 (Frequency):
a. The visible imager products (i.e., JHCXi1i2 KNES and JJCXi1i2 KNES)
are suspended at night. This nocturnal suspension is imposed because,
in the absence of sunlight, the western hemisphere's illumination is
insufficient for the estimation of high-quality visible-based winds.
Therefore, for GOES East, few visible products will be disseminated
between roughly 5UTC and 11UTC. For GOES West, few visible products
will be disseminated between roughly 7UTC and 13UTC.
b. While the bulk of the imager products (i.e., JACXi1i2 KNES through
JJCXi1i2 KNES) are sent on a three-hourly basis, there are much
smaller
distributions of imager products at some intermediate times. These
smaller distributions correspond to regional southern hemispheric
scans
of the GOES imager. The out-of-phase timing is partly due to the
timing
of the southern hemisphere imager scans and partly due to product-
generation load balancing at NESDIS.
FOR FOS/NOAAPORT AND NON-AWIPS CUSTOMERS- IF YOU HAVE ANY
QUESTIONS REGARDING ROUTING OR WOULD LIKE TO ADD THESE PRODUCTS
