The transition of operations to Phase II of the Central Computer System (CCS) was
completed at 12Z on Tuesday, 25 January. The new CCS, for the first time, is
comprised of two, identical, geographically separate systems, which will provide
full backup capability for the entire suite of over 5 million numerical guidance
products. The switchover to the new system was accomplished with no delay or loss
of forecast guidance products. Some minor problems were encountered related to the
associated AVN to GFS and Eta to NAM name change, but these problems were quickly
resolved.
