Because of Critical Weather, the TG Network Outage scheduled for
tomorrow (Tuesday Aug 30, 2005) at 7:00am EDT (11:00 UTC) is cancelled.
It is rescheduled for Wednesday.
TG Network Outage -- New Date:
On Wednesday Aug 31, 2005 at 7:00am EDT (11:00 UTC), we will modify the network
configuration of our public switch at the NWS Telecommunications Gateway (NWSTG
Washington, DC).
A maintenance period of 1hr is scheduled, but we hope the actual downtime will be
less. Refer to the previous message for details.
Confirmation:
We are currently planning these changes for Wednesday. However if Critical Weather
is extended, the outage will be rescheduled for Thursday Sept 1, 2005 at the same
time. We will send a confirmation notice on Tuesday.
A maintenance period of 1hr is scheduled, but we hope the actual downtime will be
less.
Affected Traffic:
The scheduled network modifications are part of the TG migration to its replacement
network structure.
We expect the following traffic will not be affected during the configuration
changes:
Radar multicast
Traffic from directly connected customers
Administrative traffic from the Campus and SSMC2 to public networks
Access to TG public servers
Access to Hydrology
Radar LDM to regions
We expect traffic from SSMC2, Campus, Internet2, Alaska to our interior networks
will be affected during the maintenance period.
Below is a list of some of the affected traffic:
Administrative traffic from the Campus and SSMC2 to interior networks
Radar level 2
Alaska sockets
DNS to NOC servers from interior networks
DataCtr (Test) network
Critical Weather:
If the scheduled date is designated a Critical Weather Day, the outage
will be postponed.
Alternate Dates:
Because of the possibility of Critical Weather next week, the NWSTG Network Outage
may need to be rescheduled. Below are the alternate dates for next week. You will
be notified by email if any changes or cancellations are necessary.
Wednesday Aug 31, 2005 at 7:00am EDT (11:00 UTC)
Thursday Sept 1, 2005 at 7:00am EDT (11:00 UTC)
We apologize for any inconvenience that this outage may cause. Please
contact me if the timing of this outage presents a critical problem for
your operations.

action but was left off the mailing list. I would appreciate if you
would send me the email address of anyone that should be informed of
scheduled downtime in the future, but was not included in the current
