Details:
The following was received from OSO/SOCC concerning the GOES-12 Imager and Sounder
and the GOES-9 Imager:
On September 7, 2005 (DOY 250), at approximately 4:15 z (12:15 ET), SOCC Engineers
will change the GOES-12 Imager patch temperature from its MID set point (98.9 K) to
its LOW setpoint (90.9 K).
In order to minimize the impact to users, the patch temperature control will be
commanded to a LOW set-point while the instrument is at rest and about to enter into
its eclipse period. The temperature transition will take approximately 4 hours to
complete. Images taken during 6:30z-8:19z will show mild to moderate "Venetian
Blinding" due to the decreasing patch temperature.
The Imager patch temperature control will remain at a LOW (90.9 K) set-point until
it is switched back to a MID (98.9 K) set-point early in May during the 2006 Spring
eclipse/KOZ season. MBCC will be turned on in 2 days, DOY 252, 9/9/05, at
approximately 18:34z during the GOES-12 housekeeping period.

Engineers will change the GOES-12 Sounder patch temperature from its MID set point
(98.3 K) to its LOW setpoint (88.5 K).
In order to minimize the impact to users, the patch temperature control will be
commanded to a LOW set-point while the instrument is at rest and about to enter into
its eclipse period. The temperature transition will take approximately 4 hours to
complete. Images taken during 6:45z-7:56z will show mild to moderate "Venetian
Blinding" due to the decreasing patch temperature. The Sounder patch temperature
control will remain at a LOW (88.5 K) set-point until it is switched back to a MID
(98.3 K) set-point early in May during the 2006 Spring eclipse/KOZ season.

Earlier this morning, DOY 249, 9/6/05, at approximately 12:35z (08:35 ET)SOCC
Engineers changed the GOES-9 Imager patch temperature control set-point from
MID(101.0 K) to LOW (94.0 K) and MBCC was turned-off.
In order to minimize the impacts to users, the patch temperature control was
commanded to a LOW set-point while the instrument was at rest and about to enter
into its eclipse period. The temperature transition took approximately 4 hours.
Images taken during 15:01z-16:25z will show mild to moderate "Venetian Blinding" due
to the decreasing patch temperature.
The Imager patch temperature control will remain at a LOW (94.0 K) set-point until
it is switched back to a MID (101.0 K) set-point early in May during the 2006 Spring
eclipse/KOZ season. MBCC will be turned on in 2 days, DOY 251, 9/8/05, at
approximately 19:11z during the GOES-9 housekeeping period.
