Update on TDWR SPG Product Distribution
18 February 2009
NEW UPDATE AS OF 2/18/09:
1. Beta Test of TDWR SPG Product Distribution Update. Last week the flow
of data from the JFK TDWR to the New York City WFO and SPG began. The
NWS plans to activate central collection of TJFK TDWR SPG products
either today, 2/18, or on 2/19 around 1500 UTC.
2. Implementation of TDWR SPG Product Flow from Remaining Sites.
a. The NWS intends to begin Central Server connections to the remaining
TDWR-SPGs the week of 23 February. Potential connections to be added the
week of 23 February are:
WFO TDWR SPG ID
San Juan TSJU
Memphis TMEM
Tampa TTPA
Denver TDEN
Tulsa TTUL
b. We plan to complete the connections to all TDWR SPGs by the end of
May 2009. The “ramp up” of connections will be dependent on the
installation of AWIPS OB9 software in advance. Updates will be sent in
advance of connection initiations.
3. Beta Test of TDWR SPG Build 3.1. The Beta Test of the TDWR SPG
software Build 3.1 is scheduled to begin at the following sites and
estimated dates (only TLVE is connected to the central collection at
this time).
WFO TDWR SPG ID Planned Start Date
Cleveland TLVE Completed (2/12/09)
Phoenix TPHX 18 February
Wichita TICH 24 February
Nashville TBNA 25 February
The software primarily addresses security, configuration changes
discovered during deployment, and fix a few “bugs.” We do not believe
these changes will impact user software.
4. Beta Test of RIDGE Radar Version 2 Displays Revised Start Date. The
start date of the RIDGE2 Beta Test has been moved to March 4, 2009. More
information about the test and RIDGE 2 can be found in the NWS Service
Change Notice (SCN) 09-03, Announcement of Comment Period for RIDGE
Radar Version 2 Beta Displays Effective February 18, 2009.
5. New Location for TDWR SPG Information. We are ending support to the
TDWR SPG FTP site we have been using. Please visit the new web site for
TDWR SPG updates and information: http://www.roc.noaa.gov/spg/.
6. New TDWR SPG Product Tools at NCDC. Last week the National Climatic
Data Center (NCDC) released version 2.3.0 BETA of the Weather and
Climate Toolkit (http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/wct/ ). Changes in this
version include support for all TDWR data, including TR?, TV? and TZL.
Also now supported are DHR and DSP for all NEXRAD and TDWR. TDWR site
locations are also available in the 'Overlay Selector'. For a list of
other new features check out:
http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/wct/newfeatures.php
This link will download and launch the Toolkit with TLVE TZL data
'preloaded' in the Data Selector:

When the "Data Selector" window appears, from the "Custom" tab, click
"List Files", select one and click "Load". You can switch to other
radars and products by either typing in the different product or site id
or pasting in a new URL from
ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/SL.us008001/DF.of/DC.radar/
NCDC is archiving TDWR SPG Level III products. The products can be
inventoried and ordered from
