Subject: Corrected to add "the" to several new zone names.
New public forecast zones and boundary changes
for parts of central and northeast Oregon and
southeast Washington effective October 15, 2010
Effective Friday, October 15, 2010, at 1200 Coordinated
Universal Time (UTC), 0500 am PDT, Weather Forecast Office (WFO)
Pendleton, OR (PDT), will make modifications to all of its
public zones to better represent climatological conditions and
to follow terrain features more closely. Oregon Zone 504 will be
eliminated. Oregon Zone 508 will be created. This new zone is in
the foothills of the southern Blue Mountains of Oregon.
A map and explanation of these changes is online at:
http://www.weather.gov/os/notifications/resources/pdt_zones.pdf
These zones are being changed to increase forecast accuracy and
provide better service, especially for long fuse products,
including watches, warnings and advisories. The changes will
result in an improved understanding of critical NWS products by
the general public and enhance NWS web-based graphical product
consistency and appearance. This change does not affect current
fire weather zones.
A description of the new zones is shown in Table 1.
