Subject: Change in legend box text of SIGWX charts
Effective November 17, 2010.
Effective Thursday, November 17, 2010, at 1245 Coordinated
Universal Time (UTC), World Area Forecast Center Washington will
make the following changes to the legend text box of Significant
Weather (SIGWX) high and medium level charts:
- The addition of the phrase "Provided by WAFC Washington" will
appear beneath the first line of the legend text box
- The text related to SIGMET, ADVISORIES, NOTAM and ASHTAM will
be changed to read as follows: "CHECK SIGMET, ADVISORIES FOR
TC AND VA, ASHTAM AND NOTAM FOR VA"
These changes are being made to adhere to the latest version of
the International Civil Aviation Organizations International
Standards and Recommended Practices Annex 3.
In accordance with the World Meteorological Organization and the
World Area Forecast System of the International Civil Aviation
Organization, high level significant weather (SIGWX) forecasts
are provided for the enroute portion of international flights.
The Aviation Weather Center provides a suite of SIGWX forecast
products for the World Area Forecast Center (WAFC) in
Washington, D.C. These products are used by airline dispatchers
for flight planning and weather briefing before departure, and
by flight crew members during flight.
High level SIGWX charts are valid at specific fixed times: 0000,
0600, 1200 and 1800 UTC. They show significant enroute weather
phenomena over a range of flight levels from 250 to 630 and
associated surface weather features.
