SUBJECT: Removal of Cooperative Observer Program Identifiers
From the Hourly02 and Daily01 Products Effective
March 22, 2011
Effective Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at approximately 1500
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), The National Climatic Data
Center will remove the Cooperative Observer Program (Coop)
identifiers in the hourly02 (CRNH02) and daily01 (CRND01)
products produced for stations in the U.S. Climate Reference
Network (USCRN) and U.S. Historical Climatology Network-
Modernization (USHCN-M). This change will affect the format of
both products by shifting the start and end positions of all
following data columns.
For both products the second data column is the Coop identifier
and is 6 characters wide, starting at character 7 and ending at
character 12. The removal of this column will shift all
following columns to the left by 7 characters, including a
column separator character. The content and width of those
following columns will not be changed.
The Weather Bureau Army Navy (WBAN) identifiers will still be
present in both products and can be used as station identifiers.
The use of the Coop identifier is being discontinued in these
networks; the Coop field may read 999999 before the format
change is in effect.
