SUBJECT:New Fire and Public Forecast Zones and Boundary
Changes for Coastal Portions of Northeast South
Carolina and Southeast North Carolina , Effective
Tuesday May 3, 2011
Effective Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at 1800 Coordinated Universal Time
(UTC), 2 pm EDT, the NWS Weather Forecast Office in Wilmington , NC ,
will split five of its fire and public forecast zones in coastal
portions of northeast South Carolina and southeast North Carolina in
two. Current Pender (NCZ097), New Hanover (NCZ101), Brunswick (NCZ100),
Horry (SCZ034) and Georgetown (SCZ046) zones will be divided into
coastal and inland zones. The 10 new zones will be assigned new zone
names and numbers as shown in Table 1.
These changes will allow long fused watches, warnings, advisories and
forecasts for these counties to be more area specific.
The fire and public zone changes require partners and users to take
appropriate action to receive the new zone products using the Universal
Generic Code (UGC) zone code format (Z) listed in Table 1.
