Subject: Implementation of Seasonal Terminal Aerodrome
Forecast (TAF) Talladega Municipal Airport (KASN)
Effective October 9, 2011
Note: The following changes have no impact on NOAA Weather
Wire Service subscribers
Effective Sunday, October 9, 2011, the NWS office at Birmingham,
AL, will begin seasonal TAF service for the Talladega Municipal
Airport (KASN) in Talladega AL in support of the biannual
National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) races at
the Talladega Superspeedway. Routine and updated TAFs will be
issued for this airport 24 hours a day for 2 weeks leading up to
and 3 days after the races.
The two major race events are held in April and October. These
general dates are subject to change by NASCAR. A Public
Information Statement that provides the effective TAF dates will
be issued by WFO Birmingham at least one month prior to each
race.
These events bring over 200,000 people to Superspeedway for each
race for several days in advance. Many of the attendees fly by
private or charter planes into Talladega Municipal Airport.
NWS personnel will need to add the following identifier to their
communications systems to receive the new TAF:
Airport WMO Heading AWIPS ID
Talladega Municipal FTUS44 KBMX TAFASN
In addition, this new seasonal TAF will be added to the existing
TAF collectives below, which are transmitted to FAA personnel
and other external users.
