August 5, 2011, NWS Field Test Using New WSR-88D in
Grays Harbor County, WA
NWS is planning a 3-hour test of the KLGX data transmission capabilities
of the new Weather Surveillance Radar-1988, Doppler (WSR-88D) in Grays
Harbor County, WA.The test is planned to occur on or about 9 am to noon
(PACIFIC) on Sep 8, 2011. Level 2 and Level 3 data/products will be
transmitted to external users during this period. The radar will be
operating in standard
WSR-88D volume coverage patterns (i.e., no scans below 0.5 deg.).Data
collected during the test will be archived at the National Climatic Data
Center .
The KLGX Dual Polarization modification is scheduled to start September
12, 2011.The estimated date the modification will be completed and Level
2 and Level 3 data/products will be transmitted to external users is Sep
23.The addition of Dual Polarization products to the KLGX data
transmission will be on or about Sep 27, 2011.
