Subject: Soliciting Comments for Experimental Tropical
Cyclone Impacts Graphics through November 30, 2012
Effective no later than July 1 and continuing through
November 30, 2012, NWS is seeking user feedback on experimental
Tropical Cyclone Impacts Graphics associated with tropical storms
and hurricanes.
The suite of graphics addresses four hazards: wind, tornadoes,
coastal flooding, and inland flooding.
These experimental products will be generated by participating
coastal Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs) when the National Hurricane
Center (NHC) issues a tropical cyclone watch or warning for a WFO’s
area of forecast and warning responsibility. The potential impacts
graphics are intended to answer a key question: "What should I
prepare for?" The graphics, along with a description and static
examples, will be posted online, no later than July 1, at:
http://www.weather.gov/tcig/
The default graphic will be in KML format displayed on an interactive
Google Earth background map. A .png file will also be available.
NetCDF and KML files for the four impact graphics will be available
for download at the above web site.
The following WFOs (comprising all the coastal WFOs in Eastern and
Southern Regions) will provide Experimental Tropical Cyclone Impacts
