Subject: Soliciting Public Comments through April 26, 2013
on the Removal of NCEPs Legacy Radar Graphics
The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) is
seeking comments through April 26, 2013, on a proposal to stop
producing the legacy radar summary and radar legend graphics.
The radar summary is a graphical depiction of the areal coverage
of radar echoes. The radar legend has echo tops and bases,
precipitation type, direction of precipitation movement, and echo
areal coverage with contours of intensities of radar echoes for
VIP levels 1, 3 and 5. These radar products are disseminated via
NOAAPORT as Redbook graphics. The WMO headers are PAWO82 KWBC and
PAWO83 KWBC.
Examples of these products are available at:
http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/changes/docs/radarsummaryGIF.gif
http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/changes/docs/radarsummary.pdf
Radar information is available from multiple sources, including
the NWS Doppler Radar National Mosaic page at:
http://www.weather.gov/Radar
and also at the Aviation Weather Centers website at
http://www.aviationweather.gov/obs/radar
NWS will evaluate all comments to determine whether to proceed
with this change. If approved, NWS will send a Technical
Implementation Notice giving 30 days notice of the implementation
date.
