Subject: Extending Comment Period for Experimental Tropical
Cyclone Impacts Graphics through November 30, 2013
Effective June 1, 2013 and continuing through November 30, 2013,
NWS is seeking user feedback on experimental Tropical Cyclone
Impacts Graphics.
The Tropical Cyclone Impact Graphics are an internet-based
product suite consisting of four hazard graphics: wind, tornado,
coastal flood, and inland flood. Each graphic is based on the
most recent threat assessment as centered on a particular
geographic area of interest and is presented in terms of
potential impact while using associated descriptions unique to
that area. The graphics take into account the forecast magnitude
of the hazard, along with the associated uncertainty of the
forecast.
These experimental products will be generated by participating
coastal Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs) when the National
Hurricane Center (NHC) issues a tropical cyclone watch and/or
warning for a WFOs area of forecast and warning responsibility.
There are no changes in the format of the graphics for the 2013
hurricane season. The graphics, along with a description and
static examples, will be posted online at:
http://www.weather.gov/tcig
The default graphic will be in KML format displayed on an
interactive Google Earth background map. A .png file will also
be available. NetCDF and KML files for the four impact graphics
will be available for download at the above web site.
The following WFOs (comprising all the coastal WFOs in Eastern
and Southern Regions) will provide Experimental Tropical Cyclone
Impacts Graphics:
Boston, Massachusetts (BOX)
Brownsville, Texas (BRO)
Caribou, Maine (CAR)
Charleston, South Carolina (CHS)
