Subject: Addition of Mean Total Sky Cover to 1200 UTC
Extended-Range GFS MOS Text and BUFR Messages on or
about October 15, 2013
On or about Tuesday, October 15, 2013, beginning with the 1200
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) model run, the NWS
Meteorological Development Laboratory (MDL) will add mean total
sky cover to the 1200 UTC extended-range Global Forecast System
(GFS)-based Model Output Statistics (MOS) text (MEX) messages.
At present, mean total sky cover is available in the extended-
range message only for the 0000 UTC cycle.
This change will slightly alter the format of the 1200 UTC MEX
message because a line for total sky cover will be added to the
existing bulletin. After the change, the format of the 1200 UTC
MEX message will be identical to that of the 0000 UTC message.
The communication identifiers for all products affected by this
change are listed in Tables 1 and 2 below.
