relation between JPythonMethods and DataUtils

There are overlaps between these two classes,
for example JPythonMethods.field(flaot[][]) and
DataUtils.makeImage(float[][]) do the same thing.
There are other identical methods.
Except for the nominal difference suggested by
the class name, is one class more preferrable than
the other for to do the same thing?
