I'm in the same boat... This the first I've heard of AWIPS2. We've been 
developing a Java based application for the last 7-8 years for 
hurricanes and topical cyclones. From what I've just read, Java seems to 
be a big player in AWIPS2. Are there any sites dedicated to AWIPS2 yet?
