One interesting thing about the RRFS is that the pressure level output goes up
to 2 mb, which is around the max altitude our very large scientific balloons
float. We currently use the GFS for float wind prediction in the stratosphere.
Will be interesting to compare to the RRFS after I get my scripts written for
PARA. I don’t if many other groups have interest above 10 mb, but it is pretty
exciting.

at what will be sent there on Nomads PARA now:

This is of course a subset of the other RRFS/REFS data on Nomads, and without
the .idx files so you need to do a little wgrib2 digging yourself. We may not
know the exact patterns until the data actually starts flowing, but between
that SCN and what data is on PARA now this should be enough for a strongly
educated guess.

We’ve been eagerly awaiting as well! The RRFS and REFS won’t be available on
the IDD until it becomes operational on October 6th and begins flowing through
the SBN, at which point we’ll be able to get the grids served out through the
TDS. We anticipate learning more details, like anticipated pqact product
patterns, at our upcoming fall committee meeting September 9th and 10th.
